Can anyone recommend any 55+ communities in Vancouver? I am thinking about retiring to the area. Open to both houses and condos, but not mobile homes.

When I look online at Vancouver real estate prices, they seem relatively low, with many homes under $300,000. I don't know how real that is, though. Comments?

Many thanks.

Cascade Inn seems to be a good option for many.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am (hopefully) not ready for assisted living. I was just looking for a community with an age minimum, no more.

As far as I know, there's no "King City" like in Oregon....

Quick look at Realtor.com showed about 130 homes 250K-300K....

Some are in 98682 which is expanding. Some are in old neighborhoods and values "May" be falling.

Try Fairway Village, near Fisher Landing C-tran / se 164th Ave and 14th street.

Not for OP, but the next reader... Nearby, Vista del Rio is one of the nicest 55+ MHP in the USA (I am in that business & look high and low throughout USA finding another like it to buy)
Every home has level access from carport, very handy for rehab / aging.

I'm planning a 55+ senior garden / sustainable cottage village. We have a property near Van Mall, but it is many yrs out. There are several similar in OR, but very expensive.

Mennonite Village in Salem is a good model, but very spendy, and not desired by all. The cost seems high from a secular business perspective, but the members are benevolently building equity for future needs / generations. I like to study 7500 York in Edina, MN. They are into their 4th generation of co-op memberships, passed on to subsequent generations. This has enabled them to add memory care. As a volunteer to seniors and hospice, I am so pleased when there is an option to keep married couples and family together though aging / eol. Most senior options require couples to split up as care needs change. This is a tragedy in most cases.

OP, check for the local 55+ Monthly newspaper. Vancouver housing authority and parks and rec publish excellent 55+ guides.

$300k will get you a nice 'active senior' home in Vancouver region.
Hint: buy or make it senior friendly, minimal tax (lower sf, beautiful and livable inside, but unassuming outside, ADA compliant offers property tax break when building new, maybe for existing?)
As a retiree, View property is very important to me, and very ez to sell.

Isn't this place basically a mobile home park? I've been through here, looked like a dump. Retirement communities in Florida and Arizona blow this place away big-time.

Yeah, didn't mention is as the OP asked for "No Mobile home" and that's what it is...dumpy.

I have to say, when I read this post, I just couldn't stop laughing I'm in my mid-40's but my husband and I have a 10-year-plan to move to the Oregon/Washington area, as we will be empty-nesters. So at that point we will be looking in the 300k range and will be about 55 as well. Vancouver is high on our list. We have visited all over Oregon/Washington and love it. Anyway, I love that the recommendation for a 55 year old was a retirement home! I would also hope to get a few more years before heading off to a retirement home at the age of 55 Some search sites have the option for typing in a keyword in the Filter portion of the search and you can type in "55+" I have been fairly successful using a few websites. Message me if you would like that list!

StealthRabbit, your sustainable cottage community sounds great. While researching/planning yours, did you come across anything else similar, located in WA state?
