Default Advice on this Vancouver area....

My family and I just moved to the Portland area and were curious about an area we are looking to build. We got a good offer from the builder but wonder about the ghetto areas and schooling systems.

We have 2 boys, 10 and 13 and a 2 year old. What are the good schools and not so good.

The area is [SIZE=-1]6200 NE 84th Avenue, Vancouver 98662

Thanks for all your help!

That's a decent area of Vancouver. It's a mix of houses and apartments, but it leans towards working middle class.

Walnut Grove Elementary is a few blocks away, Gaiser Middle School and Fort Vancouver High would be the remaining schools. Fort is probably the worst high school in town. It has a diverse group of kids from lower income households. Of course, that means problems with gangs and stuff. Your better off getting a boundray exception for your kids and having them go to Hudson's Bay or Columbia River.

Gangs are not really an issue in Vancouver period. Fort Vancouver High is the lowest ranked high school in Vancouver but, ranked higher than any public school in Oregon. That address falls in the Walnut Grove Area of the MLS. It is a prime location that has been sort of forgotten about and is just now starting to get developed.

True. I should have been clearer, hopefully I didn't turn K-Dub off to the Walnut Grove area.

Most of Vancouver's 'gangs' are wanna-bees. Fort does have it's problems though, mostly between blacks, Mexicans and Russians. That's not racist, it's true.

Once our house out of state sells we will most likely be moving to this area. The high school is the one thing that worries me most. I have a 13 year old in 7th, 10 year old in 5th and a 2 year old.

Are there any good websites to look at when choosing a school? Fort V doesn't sound like the school that would fly with me and my family, this is based on a number of people that I've talked with in the past month.

Once again thanks for all the input!
