I have to disagree with Vancouver being as or more expensive than Portland. I found a nice new 2 bdrm apt in Vancouver for $820. Got lots of perks (like a month's free rent) to get me started. I looked at both cities and decided on Vancouver. Not that Portland isn't great...but I'm coming from a small town and the culture shock will be enough living in a city with pop. more than 10,000.
As far as Seasonal Affective Disorder, it usually hits people who ALREADY have mild/moderate depression. This can be alleviated with supplements, hypnosis, etc.
People also get depressed from sitting around too much, regardless of the weather. Now if you really want some weather to complain about check out the midwest, or the south, or....you know...all those places that have a crappy winter AND summer but a few bearable days in spring and fall. Which is most of the United States last time I checked.
I have seasonal affective disorder...I can not stand anymore sunshine. I live in Phoenix and it is non stop sunshine everyday. Im not kidding. Want to talk about crappy weather, It was over 108 ever day for 3 months, and its still 100 plus. It started in may in the high 90s, and it ends its reign of terror in November. In Washington, at least I used to get a break from the clouds once a week or so. I got up the other day and it was only 80 degrees outside, at 7am. It was pure heaven.

One of the things I love about this area is how the weather changes, and I don't mind the clouds, fog & rain. OK, by April I'll be tired of rain every day, but that's such a small factor in the larger scheme of things.

I don't know how you can tolerate that heat in Phoenix!

well, I was intranced by the weather in in march. The sunshine was great for a change. I thought I knew what I was getting into. I thought, hey 3 months of miserable weather is a good exchange for 9 months of beautiful weather. Im going to get my few good months in about 40 days, and then Im coming back to 365 days of beautiful Washington weather.

I have also lived in Ausin Texas...another miserable weather state, humidity is unbarable.

Lived in Colorado, freaken cold weather for 5 months, miserable hot summer (although not as hot as here in phoenix).

I never had those "cant stand it" months in the Pac NW, the clouds are a bummer after a while, but you can still go out side, you can still go for a walk. Even when it rains, you can still go out and plays some mud football or baseball.

Southern California it is supposed to be the best weather in the nation. I find it so boring. We do get some hot and usually humid weather in late July through September. I have been here too long. The weather is so boring. Last year it got to 96 degrees in my apartment and I live near the beach with no air conditioning. I am tired of it.

If you get a chance to relocate, think about the PNW...I think it's great up here, weatherwise, and I don't at all agree with the title of of this thread. I think housing is abundant here in suburbian Vancouver, and I'm getting used to living in this larger metro area. Life is good.

As a matter of fact that is where I want to relocate. Have some money saved for it. I just really want to find the optimum location if possible.

yea, same here in Juneau,Ak
plus anything you could buy in the lower 48 you can double the cost to buy it here..IF you can find it here.
No state taxes but not a big savings since we pay so much for anything and everything.
Good thing there is nothing to do but bike or hike here because you couldn't afford to do anything that wasn't free.

I checked out alaska, food and gas were more expensive, but housing was right about the same. Then again, I was checking out Anchorage. I would love to trade you places. I live in Alaskas Polar opposite, Phoenix AZ. I used to live in Vancouver and am thinking of moving to either Oregon, Washington or Anchorage Alaska.

I lived in Phoenix for 7 yr. and a very hot part of Central Cal for 7 yr. I realized that I had endured 14 yr. of unbearably hot summers, so am kicking up my heels in Vancouver. To me, the weather is fine...grey yes, but very comfortable temps. The rain is light compared with some storms I've been through in AZ and CA. Very short bits of rain. I'm guessing things will get heavier in winter. That's appropriate for the season. The nice thing is...I haven't had one hot flash since I've been here (!) and that makes me very happy...
