Default Vancouver questions

Thought about posting this under the thread started by the person moving to Vancouver this summer, but I think my questions differ a bit...

Anyway, my family will be moving to Vancouver in the coming weeks, and with little knowledge of the area, I have a few questions:

1: First things first...we'll need an apartment. Can anyone recommend a good apartment complex suitable for a young family? My wife and I have a young son so we're looking for somewhere safe and quiet. We don't want to live amongst college kids (like we do now). I go onto apartment ratings websites and either every place in town is a dump, or only the people with an axe to grind post on those sites. Any recommendations?

2: We're looking at the Fisher's Landing area...my wife's job is nearby, but once we figure out daycare I'll most likely be looking for work in downtown Portland. I've heard varying reports on the commute- anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour. Is that in the ballpark?

3: Speaking of daycare...well, daycare. Any recommendations for a good daycare in the city?

I have to disagree. When my kids were younger I had them go to Kindercare. They didn't last two weeks. Two words, head lice.

If I were The Sausage King of Chicago, I'd look into private home daycares. They are usually smaller and more personal.

For day care, we LOVED Knowledge Beginnings in Vancouver (Fisher's Landing area). It was a big disappointment to try to duplicate that place once we moved out-of-state, believe me.

I once lived at Crystal Creek Apts, on Minnehaha st. its off of I-5\99th.
Its a 12 mile drive to downtown Portland. Very nice community with attached garages, huge balcony patios. It's fairly quiet on that side of town.
