Question Need temporary housing and/or relocation help in Vancouver, WA ASAP

My wife and I are suddenly faced with an immediate move to Vancouver, WA from Western Oregon. She began her job search Wednesday, finalized a deal Saturday morning, and we just spent the weekend searching for housing. It is clear to us that we need more time but we don't have it--she starts work tomorrow and I have a contract that will have me traveling for the better part of a week at a time for the next month or so, so I can't be in Vancouver very often while we look for new digs.

If anyone has tips on temporary housing, including share rentals, or people/services that could help us line up a temporary place to live (we are thinking we need one to three months) while we catch our breath and find a permanent home, please speak up. We are hoping we can find a furnished or unfurnished place for less than $1,000 per month. Complicating our situation is the fact that we are suing our seriously irresponsible landlord of the past six months for abusing and neglecting his authority and responsibilities, so we will lack a willing reference from our immediate housing situation (any thoughts about overcoming that welcome but not meant to be the focus of this post).

We will also be looking for a safe and value priced storage facility to shelter most of the contents of our two bedroom house, so fire away if you have a lead on that, too.

Thanks for the help!

i can't help on the housing as i am looking for housing as well, but as far as the landlord situation - I would say get a reference from your landlord from before the one that you had an issue with. Other than that if you paid your rent on time you can just show your canceled monthly rental checks showing the dates that you paid on time. Also a credit report showing good credit history may also be helpful as well along with a detailed letter explaining your reasoning for suing your last landlord. Just some suggestions - hope it helps.

we are also looking for housing and want to rent for at least a year until we know more about the area. plus i hear the housing market is not that great and we don't want to get stuck with a house. but anyway thats my input.

Smile How are things going?

It's been a couple of days since you posted, so I wonder if you've found temporary housing.

I did a search for extended stay for this area and found these urls:
Vancouver Corporate Housing - Temporary Furnished Apartments Vancouver, WA

Hotel

Staybridge Suites Staybridge Suites VANCOUVER, WA - Map - Extended Stay Hotel - XSN

Temporary Furnished Apartments, Corporate Apartments, Serviced Apartments and Extended Stay Housing
I couldn't tell price ranges without going deeper into the sites, you that'd be for you to check out, anyway.

And I can't think of the name but I regularly drive by a couple of other similar types of places. I will check tomorrow (if I don't have to go out of town....) and try to post the added information.

My perception is that you should be able to get into a temporay place very quickly and depending on your requirements for a more permanent rental or buying, I don't think there should be a problem. A lot depends, though on what you're looking for.

I wish you well! Post whenever you're able, OK?

Thanks for the help! I have a sublet that I am looking at tonight. Hopefully that will work out, but even if it does it would be great to get down a few leads for others who are likely to find themselves in a similar situation. I'll let everyone know when we have solved our temporary housing search.
