Default snow ???

Hi
Just wondering what the winters are like in Vancouver? Does it snow? How much? How long are the winters? Also how cold does it get in the winter/how hot in the summer?

Thanks everyone for your information!

Thumbs up Snow in Clark County (including Vancouver)

"It depends..." is a statement that more true here than it might be in other places. So here goes.

It depends on-

1) the year- most years just a smattering of snow (not enough to require anyone to make any changes in their daily routine. And then every 6 or 7 years, we have a surprise ice storm that closes down everything for a few days.

2) the altitude- Vancouver itself is at about 500' and is the last location in the county to get snow. The towns of Yacolt and Amboy to the North are at higher altitudes and are the first (and sometimes only) places to get snow.

Before I retired, I worked in Camas (to the east) and our buildings were on a hillside where we sometimes got snow when the main roads just a few hundred feet lower than use were only having rain.

If you want to play in the snow, the nice thing about this area is that you can drive a few hours north or west and be in snow country (skiing, snow shoeing, sledding, etc.).

Those of us who live here feel we are really getting the best of both worlds!

trilogy -

can you tell me the temp extremes from winter - summer - does it get super cold -
I am originally from the midwest (nd/mn) - so I have lived in the "super cold" part of the country. I am now in AZ - and can say I have lived in the oven as well - Im hoping Vancouver is a happy medium
thanks!

It is a happy medium in my opinion, albeit a rainy one

Summers average 80 to 85 with 7 to 10 days of 90+ heat. All in all not to bad, but you will want AC because it can get muggy.

The winters are rainy with highs in the upper 40s to 50s, the lows rarely get below freezing. Once in a while we will get snow, but it melts by mid-day. It's the freezing rain that really sucks. We here in Vancouver only get it once every couple of years. If you live up in the Columbia River Gorge, you'll get it more often.

The Bay Area is very happy medium, it has the best weather year around...
We get 6 months of rain here and 9 months of grey days in the Pacific Northwest.
But it is very bareable and think AZ is one of the worst palces to live.

When I was a lkid a bizillion years ago we had real snow sometimes a foot deep. It was great for sledding. We lived near a hill that would send us sailing a block. no kiding
I am 49 now and we get very little snow, mostly just a dusting. I miss the snow but if you want snow you need to go to the mountains. We seldom have enough oto even make a snow man
what we don't get in snow we get in rain. all it does is rain, live her long enough you may aquire webbed toes. The rain does make everything green though. It' beautiful.
