We are considering moving to the Vancouver, but (there's always a but, right) one of us (namely me) needs to find a job before we do.
So, I'm an IT gal with many years experience as a Project Manager and Systems/Data/Business Analyst. I've looked on monster, dice & careerbuilder. All the jobs seem to be in Portland. Where does one look for jobs in the Vancouver area. I realize Portland is 'just across the river', however one accident on a bridge could bring your morning commute to a screeching halt.
thanks,
C

You can check Craigslist too, I hate to be negative but there really aren't any jobs here right now, especially in IT.

I have the same experience as the OP and in over a year of searching have come up with zero interviews in Vancouver and only two in Portland. There are very few positions available and even the 1099 contracts at low-ball rates are hard to get.

Do you think the jobs on the boards really exist? I mean there are way more postings in Vancouver/Portland than here. That's why it's one of the places where we're looking.

Oregon's unemployment is currently 11.7% and Washington's is 8.8%, while California, typically known for having more jobs than both, is at 12.1%. Keep in mind these figures don't include the people that have stopped looking for work but are still unemployed. The reality of the matter is that everyone says there are no jobs, and there are no jobs.

I think Seattle / Tacoma / Spokane help the Washington unemployment numbers look better than others.

The last report on Clark County immediately north of Portland shows unemployment over 13%.
