Default Good Restaurants in Vancouver?

We moved to our Salmon Creek home early this year and really love the area but have not dined out much just because we have located few restaurants we really liked. Have enjoyed several places in Portland but would like to find a few close to home.

Any good suggestions? Especially wanting for a good Chinese restaurant.

I live on the other side of town and don't get toward Salmon Creek much. I tend to eat at a few places right around my house or head into Portland. Friends of ours adore a dim sum place in Chinatown (downtown Portland), so that's where we tend to head for Chinese.

Downtown Vancouver, there's Thai Orchid (a local chain with about 5-6 places). I can't remember the name of the Thai place across from Esther Short Park, but it's good, too. The Salmon Creek Brew Pub's not bad pub food. Jerusalem Cafe doesn't look like much, but it's good very casual "Mediterranean" food.

My favorites restaurants are probably Roots, over in Camas off 192nd and Applewood (in a strip mall on 162nd but VERY good - call ahead because they keep odd hours) and Hudson's, run by the Heathman, over off Highway 500. Hudson's is a little expensive for what you get, although it's good. And if you ever figure out what the point of the large mural on the wall is, let me know. All three of those are what I'd call "American bistro" but top quality ingredients, very well-prepared - and on the expensive side. I'd rather go out less frequently and pay more when I do than go to the national chain Chilis - TGI Friday - Red Robin - Applebees places which, in my opinion, serve pretty dismal stuff.

Green Papaya, on Mill Plain by GI Joe's (some day I'll learn to just call it Joe's) is good pho.

jennyb315 is on a distinguished road
We are from the Vancouver area and have justed moved to Austin Texas but we are desperately missing Beaches on the Columbia.... it was our spot for dates and our kids's birthdays. Also, Eastland Sushi off 164th is quite good-- my husband misses their sushi. Nothing in Austin compares, according to him Rocky's Pizza in Battle Ground is one of our faves too
