Cheap date ideas in Vancouver?
Hey everyone, I've been having a bit of trouble thinking of activities to do with my boyfriend without our dates ending up costing an arm and a leg. The problem is, I have a lot of ideas but they are all expensive considering how I'd have to add up a few of them in one date.
Here's an example of one of our dates. I spent $70 that night.
Beard Papas: 2 cream puffs saved for the end of the date
Next Noodle Bar for dinner
Movieland Arcade
Guilt & Co. for board games, comedy and beer at the same time
It was an amazing date but if I had to do this every week, it would put a lot of stress on my finances.
A few details just to be more specific:
We're both into the fine arts as well as illustrative/video game art, and sports/outdoor activities (playing and watching). We both work until 6PM during weeknights and have to get up early in the mornings so time limits us from certain activities. Our weekends are generally open all day, though.
Having lived in Vancouver for 22 years of my life, I would've told people that I know this city in and out but I guess that's not the case since I have to turn to you guys for help, haha. Suggestions will be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Try a date night in. Cook dinner at home (do it together, it is fun) and then rent a movie or play games ie. Wii, board games or just be romantic!

Once the weather warms up, go rent bikes and ride around stanley park. Thats always a fun one to do. Take it further and ride all the way around false creek back into DT.

Thanks guys. I agree that once it gets warmer, there will be many more options for us since we're both fairly active.
To contribute to the thread, I remember going to the Olympic Village a few months ago just to see how ridiculous people make it out to be and stumbled across an amazing playground. Now I know that may seem a bit odd at first but it isn't one of those you normally find in parks. The highlight of it is that it has a (small) rock climbing surface. There's also a really long tunnel slide and a gazebo-like structure which would probably work well for picnics.
The reason why I came up with this is because I saw a deal for indoor rock climbing at Cliffhanger. Problem is that its definitely not cheap.
To those who think this is too childish, just going for a walk or biking around Olympic Village wouldn't make for a bad date. I even think that the bird statues there can make for an interesting conversation. For those a little more adventurous, I'd recommend rollerblading around that area and eventually into Granville island (but watch out for cars if you're going on a weekend).

That sounds like a lot of fun! You're never too old to stop acting like a kid sometimes, thats awesome.
Yeah, we usually rent bikes, and ride from Georgia st around Stanley park, cross Burrard and ride false creek all the way around back to west georgia. I think $6 each? So 12 bucks to get some exercise, see your town and have some fun. If you have your own rides, even better!

I am not sure how much it is for foot passengers on the ferries. Pack a picnic and head for the ferries-- its beautiful on a nice day. On your birthday the blackball ferry to anacortes is free.
Sometimes it can be nice to get a transit day pass and go anywhere. The UBC has a nice Japanese garden and lots of other stuff to see
It can be fun to head to the airport just to watch the airplanes come and go
I dont know if you have a car? You can spend a whole day crabbing and fishing!! Have you been to Belcara Park in Port Moody? There is a nice boardwalk in Port Moody where you can walk all the way around to Old Orchard Park
There is a free ferry that goes to barnston island. Its quiet there and nice for an afternoon of biking around the island
Check out the thrift stores where you might be able to get roller skates - that would be fun. Dont forget the badminton bats
Do you like dogs? The SPCA needs dogwalkers. Its fun to take them for a walk but hard to take them back. They enjoy it soooooooooooo much

view from Chalifor Crescent of the whole city in West Vancouver (warning, warning; very romantic)
sunrise over Mt. Baker in Abbotsford (orange in winter; the only time I willingly got up a 5 a.m/or was it Nancy??????)
Byrne Road park on the Fraser River sunset; and/or sunset at River Rock Casino
god, am I ever a cheap-cheep date!!

Go to Stepheson and just hang out. Read all the historic plaques, buy some awesome cheap fresh seafood from the fishermen, watch the boats and have fun.
