How would you say its cost of living compares to Singapore?

Because Singapore is the 8th most expensive city in the world according to some survey i think.

All of u ***** to much. I'm a union laborer and lay pipe for a living. I hear there's a high demand for good hard working dude's like me. Take the silver spoon out your mouth and stay in New York or California cause I don't want to deal with you tendered people. Unions take care of us and we take care of you ...if we weren't around you be pooping in the streets like Iraq with no water like Africa or storm water,,would flood y'all out, or bridges to get to your beach. Wake up America and stop bitchin. I'm from Indiana and get tired of the way we think and work. That made my decision to move there so stop killing my dreams . It's God's playground up there. It wasn't made so you can live cheaper.!!!!!!

Most of the comments are correct. Very beautiful nature, great for outdoor activities, very provincial/lame social scene, not very exciting arts & culture, real estate prices in La-La land (bur rent is not particularly expensive) and very poor career prospects for ambitious professionals...a lot of young people actually leave Vancouver. Public transportation and services are very good. Cost of living is noticeably higher compared to the US and it can go from fairly high (everyday items) to high (electronics, cars, airfares to go anywhere, etc..) to insane/out of this world (already mentioned RE prices).

Great Asian food, not very multicultural in terms of actual variety of different cultures.

But my question for the OP is...can you legally work in Canada?? Do you have residence or citizenship?? You cannot really get up and move up there, Canada is another nation.

As a personal note I would not trade Houston for Vancouver...not even slightly....but that is me.

If you are so attracted by the Northwest lifestyle, Seattle represent a way easier choice for an American and overall a much better one...you get all of the Vancouver perks (and even more), in terms of nature and geography, without the drawbacks....and you can easily visit Vancouver in the weekends.

Toronto is the economic heartland of Canada (with Montreal), far greater opportunities and the arts & culture scene is way more robust...but weather sucks in winter. Another interesting choice could be Montreal much more interesting culturally and one of the best places for an American if you want to have a bit of a "culture shock" in the continent but, as Toronto, winters can be horrendous.

Quote:
Actually it rains more than Seattle/Portland. Vancouver gets around 44 inches of rain per year, while Seattle and Portland get 37 inches each.
That is correct, even without reading the stats, Seattle feels a bit less rainy than Vancouver (lived in both cities)

I fully second Issus point. There is a fine line between providing constructive advice about living in a city and veiled bashing just because your own experience there was less than stellar.

So re-read my post...I clearly stated the positives about Vancouver.....my experience with Vancouver was actually excellent by Vancouver standards....besides everyone tend to give information and advice based on his/her own experience, it is normal don't you think??

Hon, for 6 years you've been HAUNTING the Vancouver forum for the sole purpose of bashing it. And Seattle. Do a review of your own posts for the past 6 years and see the negative pattern you've developed. It's really depressing. With the exception of Sydney you're sooooo unhappy with all the places in the world that you've been to and with where you're at now with not much positive things to say about any place. So your perspective about any place is biased towards the negative, and that means there's more of a deficiency about your personal perspectives and not such a deficiency with the places that you are bashing and the people that you're talking trash about.

If you're so unhappy, then instead of haunting the forum looking for resurrected necro topics to reply to and trash the city being enquired about and which necro topic the OP is unlikely to bother returning to after so many years anyway, why don't you just go back to your home city Rome, or your dream city, Sydney, where everything is so perfect for you. I apologize for being blunt: Cannot wait to get out of Seattle Then you could be happy again and you could post positive, upbeat, happy posts about Sydney and forget about trashing other places.

.

First of all, I do not remember you and me breaking bread together for you having this kind of familiarity in terms when you talk to me...so you can call "hon" your friends and family not me.

I do not see only negative things as you state...and, frankly, other than the weather I'm very content right now in Seattle....obviously I would love one day to move to a warmer climate....

You tend to read only the negative in my posts because maybe contradict your preconceived notions....

Wow, isn't everyone's opinion permitted in forums, even those you don't like?

Someone who has negative things to say about Vancouver is absolutely an appropriate poster for a "What's it like living in Vancouver" post.

Zoisite, just because you disagree with Saturno_v doesn't mean their opinion is less valid than yours. I'm assuming the OP didn't just want unicorns pooping rainbows in their question, the reality is that there are MANY people that don't find Vancouver paradise on earth.
