Apropos the schools, try this Vancouver schools catchments search. It is pretty detailed and you are able to easily find a lot of schools just west of Burnaby.

As other posters have said, Metro Vancouver is a pretty multi-cultural region with lots of inter-racial families. I live in a middle class area and the joke among parents is that the kids in school tend to be brown, that is from inter-racial families. As for cultural awareness, it's pretty high. My children's school counted some 47 languages spoken at the student's homes. It's common to see sushi and samosas on the school hot hot menu.

As for neighbourhood, do you have any criteria? Any particular reason you are looking at West Point Grey? Teaching or studying at UBC?

That area just seems really green and close to the beaches
My husband will e working in yaletown and didn't want to be too far out I guess but we are open to areas!
What is metro Vancouver?
I'm really at a loss for picking a school though.
