Ganglion Cyst on wrist, please please help?
I'm 21 years old (female), university student. I had this cyst on my right wrist for over a year, and it never bothered me one bit. I could only see the bump when I bend my hand forward, other then that I was trouble and pain free. Up until about 3 months ago, it suddenly started feeling uncomfortable and slightly painful. I went to my family doctor, and she said I have a ganglion cyst, she explained to me what it was( A ganglion cyst, also known as a bible cyst, is a swelling that often appears on or around joints and tendons in the hand or foot. ) and said it's too early to take it seriously. She suggested I put hot pads on it, and take Tylenol when the pain was too much. I went back 3 days after that, because the pain kept getting worse, strong sensation of the pain shooting up my fingers, and pain started to venture beyond my wrist as well. My family doctor sent suggested I see a plastic surgeon (only because the hand is very delicate) and said he/she will either drain it or surgically remove it. When I went to his office, he measured my cyst and asked me few questions, but when he injected the cyst with a needle to numb my skin so he can start draining it with a needle; It was so painful that I fainted. He then said it's better that I have it surgically removed because it's seems to be under a lot of pressure, and is in the joint area of my wrist. My cyst is on my wrist, on the joint exactly, it is rock hard, and I can not move it one side or the other. It is rock hard, and painful, cant hold a paper or a coffee cup sometimes. It mostly about the movement I make with my hand and not what I am lifting. I wish you could tell me a little bit about the procedure and what to expect, I am planning to talk to my surgeon when the office calls me to tell me exactly when is my appointment. But if you could provide any clarification, I would really really appreciate it. I am healthy, no physical trauma or hard labor at all. No excessive use to computers either. This cyst came out of nowhere.

I am waiting for my appointment which is Feb 12th, but it is only getting worse and worse and worse! I take tylenol extra strength, I put hot pads on it, I massage it, and my hand is in a wrist brace 99.99% of the time. I have things to do and the pain caused by the cyst does nothing but intervene. I hardly shower and brush my hair; cooking, house chores, assignments are all challenges and doing everything with the left hand only is difficult and sometimes not doable at all. I am worried that what I have isn't a ganglion cyst anyway! I mean doctors said it is, but so many sources online say if it's rock hard and you can move it around, then it is not a ganglion cyst :/
I am so very frustrated about all this, and especially that the cyst is effecting my life on day to day basis. Please if any of you had a ganglion cyst or know os someone who did. Please tell me if it is normal for my cyst to be rock hard and extremely painful that I cant hold a coffee cup, a pencil or even a piece of paper. The pain effects my right hand ( sometimes from the tips of the fingers to the elbow! ). Is it normal to be extremely painful?? How was the surgery? And how long did it take you to heal and be able to use it again normally? And Did you suffer from any side effects after the surgery?

I do not expect all these questions to be answered, but I would really appreciate some words from people with some sort of experience, and or knowledge about ganglion cysts. I am frustrated with myself, and being a restless person, you could almost imagine the stress I'm in because of my inability to get things done majority of the time.
Thanks in advance
I wrote everything with my left hand, I tried to keep it short, but felt the need to include as much detail so I can perhaps get as much clarification as possible

Wow, you must really need some advice to write so much with your left hand! You're having a really rough time with this health problem aren't you? My sincerest sympathies, I with I could help you but I'm quite unfamiliar with your condition. Maybe go see your doctor about getting a prescription for some more serious painkillers to help you get through the next few weeks? This also doesn't seem like the optimal forum for your question, if I were you i'd post this in the Health and Wellness forum, you're more likely to get a helpful response there.

I was just googling ganglion cyst and came across your message, I have the exact same thing and at the moment it's hurting like crazy!
I would love to know what your outcome was, have you had surgery? I'm going to see a plastic surgeon next Thursday and I really can't wait to get his opinion on this, and what the next step will be.
Hope everything turned out ok with you and you are feeling better. I am sick and tired of being in pain all the time, it's horrible because it's my right hand and now I can't even hold my cup coffee anymore on that hand or write, I have to type with my left hand!

I had one on my foot and had a foot surgeon remove it (locally without being put under). They are painful and mine
was very hard also, so don't worry that it may be something else. If the surgery is done correctly, your hand will be
sore for a short time (as in any minor procedure). You'll be fine.

I am 24 had a ganglion cyst in my wrist for the last two years. Mine was rock hard and wouldn't move around, like yours. It caused weakness in my wrist and made it difficult for me to do daily tasks and put weight on it. I had surgery a year ago, and I don't think he removed the sac like I thought he would. It returned within months in the same spot. Then this weekend, I finally gave in and tried the "bible" method - hitting it with a heavy book. It took two tries, and the second one did the job! It didn't even hurt to pop it, I was so surprised. I thought since mine was hard like a bone, it wouldn't pop. I wish I had done this two years ago. Way cheaper and less painful than surgery.

How did your surgery go? Did it come back? After my surgery, my wrist felt worse for a while, like I had carpal tunnel. It also had a much reduced range of motion, which gradually increased with stretching.

I had ganglion cyst on my right thumb last June 2014, went to the doctor twice and she referred me to the hand specialist for operation. I looked on the internet for natural treatment because my family doctor told me that operating it is not a guarantee that it will fix the problem. Also my workmate had hers operated on her toe and it came back after six months. So, I went to the health shop and I was told to take Tissue Salts "Silica" I tried that for a month and no improvement. I tried frankincense oil and put a band aid, alternating with Hirudoid cream and Anica cream every night for a month no improvement. Then I tried the Bragg's Apple cider vinegar I drink it, 1 teaspoon with 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 cup filtered water for 3 weeks before breakfast. And by the end of January 2015 this year my Ganglion Cyst softened and now its completely gone. The original size was bigger than a peanut and very hard and painful. I don't know if it was the combination of everything I tried or the Apple Cider Vinegar alone. I don't know which one worked, I just want to thank you for the information I read and it was very helpful for me.

Default Ganglion Cyst Gone

I had a ganglion cyst for some time on my right wrist. It would come and go, but never really go if you know what I mean. Had an orthopedic surgeon give it the needle and it cleared up in about a week and then came right back. The only thing the trip to the surgeon was good for was to confirm it was a ganglion cyst and not something bad (cancer). Other than being an eye sore, it did not bother me so I just lived with it. Well, I am now ganglion cyst FREE on my wrist and the only thing I can associate it with is the vitamin supplement I started taking: Beyond Tangy Tangerine Tablets 2.0. I didn't start taking this supplement to treat the cyst, but the cyst is gone and it has been gone for two months! That's an all time record for me.

I try to drink only filtered water too (ZeroWater filter). The frankincense oil did not work for me. I did not try the silica.

I've had a wrist ganglion just under my thumb for about 10 years. It usually flares up then goes away after a week or two. About a year ago it did this but never settled down. I saw my GP as it was very painful , rock hard and kept getting pins a needles. GP referred me to a surgeon on nhs. Not yet met with the surgeon but miraculously the ganglion has started to change. It's got softer wider and flatter. Should I back out of surgery? Will they be able to operate still? All advise welcome.

As long as you know it is a cyst and not something else you have options to do what you feel is best. Only you can make that decision.

The cyst I had on my wrist was also painful, but only if I put pressure on it. The orthopedic surgeon gave me the needle treatment, but my cyst, was like your cyst, quite hard. After the procedure, the cyst did go down in size but came back within a short time. I tried a number of home remedies, but none worked. My cyst would come and go as it felt, but mostly hung around as an unsightly bump.

I was on a health kick and started taking beyond tangy tangerine tablets. My cyst astonishingly vanished in around 2-3 weeks. Since I have been taking these vitamin tablets the cyst has not reappeared (I think the secret is aborption of the vitamins and minerals). I did not start taking these vitamins in hopes of getting rid of my cyst, it just happened. I would not tell you not to have surgery, but I would recommend you see if this vitamin/mineral regiment eliminates your cyst. In the US it would be a $50 experiment from Amazon. And, no, I am not a salesperson for their product but happy customer.

Best of luck. Mike

PS I have yet to meet with my orthopedic docttor, who is also my primary care doctor, to talk about this, but plan to when I go in for my yearly checkup. I'm interested to hear his thoughts on the matter.
