If I may

What people want or like is of course very subjective. For the things you listed, Vancouver is wonderful for that.

Others, some friends included, prefer much bigger cities like Toronto. I like Toronto, but I prefer Vancouver.

The way I like to describe Vancouver is that it's a " soft " city. The hard edges are softened by the ocean, parks and slower west coast vibe.

I have travelled a fair bit in the US, Canada, Mexico and Western Europe. I lack travel experience to Australia, Asia and South America, but my friends don't. Most concur, that Vancouver is a wonderful place to live.

Now, if we are talking about living for a year somewhere else, there are many places I could see myself quite happily doing so.

First of all, a "best place in the world" does not exist.....every person is different on what he/she consider "best".
Vancouver is a very clean city with beautiful natural surroundings, nobody is going to disagree with that.....from there to "best place on earth" there is a huge leap. There are quite few things important for many people that Vancouver simply lacks...and, again, "a best place on earth" does not exist.

Same old Nat....I'm not "belittling" anything....being beautiful city and being "the best place on earth" are two very different things as you already basically concurred. As I said before (and you did too) a "best place on earth" that does fits everybody does not exists.
As you know, I absolutely love San Diego in North America and I'm actively planning to move there eventually...but I would never ever say that it is "the best place on earth"...it would be a silly thing to say.

You are. You're challenging her view of Vancouver because IT DOESN'T COFORM to your view.

You are unable to just let someone say they love Vancouver. You have this NEED to belittle someone's view by assuming they haven't travelled much. When in fact YOU DON'T KNOW how much she has travelled. You just assume that it is impossible for someone who is well travelled to like Vancouver? What does that say?

I'm not saying Vancouver is the best place on earth. That was addressed in an earlier post. What people are saying, that Vancouver is a pretty amazing place, to live and visit.

Why can't you just leave it at that???

Take your Valium Nat.... Go back and read my first intervention in this thread.....I did comment on a specific statement , this one:

"Before I visited, I remember Vancouver (or maybe BC in general) referring to itself as "the greatest place in the world". I thought to myself, "that's a really big claim". But by the time my trip was over, I realized they were right!"

As a matter of fact I did not even post anything on the thread until that particular statement was made.

The OP love to live in Vancouver...fine I had nothing to add.

You are the one so insecure that cannot take a modicum of criticism of your city.

I commented on the label not the fact that some people like it so much...

P.S.

In my own experience, usually people that use that expression for any place did not travel that much....

When I called Vancouver the best place in the world, I thought it was implied that it was my personal opinion (like when someone calls their mom the best mom in the world, or their favorite animal the best animal), but I guess I didn't make that clear. I also misinterpreted Saturnov's response and wrongly assumed it meant there was also a place that he considered the best place. I'm sure we all agree that no city is objectively "the best".

My apologies to the OP for steering the thread off topic.

Vancouver seems to be too subdued too me, not as vibrant and hustling-bustling as Toronto or even it's neighbor, Seattle. Even the Chinatown in Vancouver is subdued

You didn't and you should not apologize. The wet blanket in Seattle should apologize since he steered it off topic. Don't worry about it, everyone who's a regular poster here knows it was just a matter of time before the wet blanket would hijack it. I'm surprised it took so long this time. Any time somebody dares to express an enthusiastic personal opinion about Vancouver that's like throwing a bucket of irresistible chum to a circling shark. To the wet blanket it means it's an invitation to come attack, harass and dampen the positive poster's spirits, to personally insult them and bite their happiness bubbles.

I think we need a wet blanket emoticon with his name on it.

Saturno V, there is a best place in the world. It is whatever place meets an individual's preferences and delights, that makes them happiest to be there. You should mind your own business and not try to determine what you think should make other people happy and what's best for them.

We all know how much you hate other people saying enthusiastic things about Vancouver but it is not your place or your moral obligation to insult and embarrass them and try to make them feel like fools or try to make them dislike Vancouver.

You've been doing this for a few years now, don't you think this has gone on long enough? What does it take to get you give it a rest on the insults and harassment? Will it be necessary for some of us to petition the C-D administration to request to have you banned from the Canada forum?

You cannot take praise of a city you haven't lived in for 15 or more years. Your obsession with Vancouver and Canada is strange for someone who left that long ago.

No one is buying this. Over and over and over, you have done exactly what Zoiste stated. Your pattern is the same.

It's almost pathological.
