Default Liberal Social Worker interested in moving from Detroit, MI. to Vancouver, BC.

I am going to graduate with my master's degree in social work in May, 2009 and I am interested in moving to Vancouver, BC. How difficult is it for Americans to relocate to Vancouver? How is the social work profession viewed in Vancouver?

It is VERY difficult for Americans to work in Canada and vice versa. There are job classifications that each side looks for, and even then all you can get is a temporary work visa. Sorry to say, there is no shortage of liberal social workers in Canada. Americans and Canadians treat each other worse for this sort of things than they do Filipinos for instance.

One recommendation I can make for you is try to get in via the academic process. Apply for the doctorate program at UBC or even Univ. of Victoria (on the island). If you get accepted you have a job and a visa straight away.

Try emigrating to Quebec:

Immigration et Communautés Culturelles Québec - Preliminary Immigration Evaluation

You can then move to Vancouver.
