hello :-)
my gf and I (both 30) will be visiting Vancouver next July 24 - July 30 and we would like to ideally stay in Downtown in order to 1. not have to rent a car and 2. be close to everthing (including fireworks celebration festival).
Which area (in the attached picture) would you recommend us staying at and do you have any recommendations as far as hotels? our budget is about 150-175 a night and we want something nice and safe and comfortable.
Stay in the region 4 which is called "the West End". It is literally steps away if you stay near the English Bay where they will have the fireworks. The mass transit in Vancouver is great (this comes from someone who had lived in NYC before).
Your nightly budget sounds good enough for at least a 3 star hotel, anywhere.

yes transit is great in the city core but if you want to travel anywhere out side the city you need to rent a car. also be sure to get to the fireworks early as the are always packed and hard to find a spot also don't stay in east vancouver because it is very seedy and dirty part of town otherwise hope you have fun

Our friends always stay at the Pacific Palisades on Robson Street. Lots of places to stay around there actually, and a great spot as Robson's an interesting street, as well as Denman at the bottom, plus you can pretty much walk anywhere downtown from there. Also close to Stanley Park and maybe ten blocks or so from English Bay and the beaches.
Here's a site you can check out for the different hotels and rates ..

thank you so much in advance.
Stay in zone 4 or zone 5 as that will put you in the downtown peninsula. Don't bother with anything else unless you want to be in the suburbs of Richmond, Burnaby, or North Vancouver.
Zone 4's the West End/Robson Street area.
Zone 5 is Yaletown/False Creek.
And if you did wish to leave downtown, no, you don't need a car. You can easily get around to attractions outside of downtown via public transit (whether by bus, skytrain, seabus, water taxi, etc).
Both sound fairly reasonable, especially for downtown during the height of summer.
Not having been in many, can't say .. did read that the Comfort Inn is new? .. both are walkable anywhere in the downtown hub, or jump on a short bus ride ..
Keep in mind, if any have a coffee maker and small fridge in the room, you can easily provide your own 'continental breakfast' or out to the nearest corner where you shouldn't have a problem running into a coffee shop. Do you wish to eat breakfast each day in your hotel?
Here's another site to check out with rates and rating and many reviews you may wish to read ..

that true if you want to go to the north shore or head out to new west or surrey but if the want to go to whistler it's by car or train or greyhound pretty much
