I have been vegetarian for a very long time. Lacto vegetarian, I don't eat eggs. My husband is an omnivore but he eats veg at home, when we go out to dinner he can order whatever, but I won't cook meat at home. He will occasionally cook him self a burger. The reason I became a vegetarian was that I just woke up one day and just felt funny about eating meat, it was weird but was the best decision I ever made, and it wasn't any kind of transition at all. I never ate meat with bones anyway like chicken or a thanksgiving turkey, and never got into steak or ribs. Just never appealed to me. I am fortunate to live in an area where there is a huge Indian population, so I do have access to some pretty cool restaurants and grocery stores.

I'm not actually a vegetarian, but I do try and eat vegetarian a few days a week. Mostly because it's better for the environment like annaegel mentioned (the whole production cycle of meat costs much more resources that that of veggies), but in general it also saves money.
