British singer Morrissey has convinced the Los Angeles concert venue not to sell meat during his concert next month.
The longtime animal rights activist and singer for 1980s rock group The Smiths urged the Staples Center arena to close concession stands of McDonald's and to stop selling meat at other outlets at the venue for his March 1st concert.
"We respect Morrissey's lifestyle and his concern for the wishes of so many of his fans and are happy that we are able to honor his requests in this manner," Lee Zeidman, the arena's general manager, said in a statement on Tuesday.
The operator of Staples Center, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) said the arena will also roll out a special line of meatless food concessions, including vegan sloppy Joes, vegan sushi, and hummus and pita bread.
"I don't look upon it as a victory for me, but a victory for the animals," the "Irish Blood, English Heart" singer said earlier this week.
This is excellent! Non-veg*n concert attendees will be introduced to a number of meatless products at concession stands.
Good for him! I can imagine a lot of people will be complaining however, because some people have nothing better to do. It won't kill anyone not to eat meat for one night. I mean come on, you are attending a concert, you aren't going to a restaurant.
wow, I see this a totally different way than vegetarians and vegans obviously. I think there should be vegetarian items offered, but I don't think any entertainer or any one person should be able to dictate what should and should not be offered. Of course it isn't going to hurt anyone if they have to go without thier hot dog or burger for a night, anymore than it hurts to go without your glass of wine or a soft drink, but if I were paying the cost of a concert ticket to see the concert, I would expect to grab the kind of sandwhich I was expecting... If ge were a Mormon would it be appropriate to ask them not to sell coffee or a Muslim not to hafe pork or a recovering alcoholic not to serve liquior.
He probably just did way more to turn people off of vegetarianism than promote it. I respect other people's beliefs, but not when they use their clout to try and force them on people.

I am not sure he was forcing. It might be that he gets physically sick by the wafting smells of frying and cooking meat. I think for him to preform that might be an issue.
My point wasn't about the diet as much the idea. Thats all. Didn't mean to hurt anybodys feelings, just using "opposites" is all.
And it is one meal/snack. I don't know anyone who goes to a concert for the food.
Good point. We always go to dinner before going to a concert. Although the concession stand choices are improving. I have been an NFL and NBA season ticket holder for years, and most stadiums are offering gourmet food items, along with vegan/vegetarian options. There are stands that specialize in healthy choices.
