I learned about Field Roast on another thread in this subforum. Here's the website:
Field Roast - The Original Makers of Vegan Grain Meat

I bought one of the original loaves. Anyone care to share how they fix one of these things? I suspect that the sauce or glaze that one puts on it makes a difference.

I was shocked at how tiny the thing is and how expensive it was. It would cost a small fortune to feed a family of even just four people this product, especially if there were male teenagers at the table.

Their website does not list any prices and there is 1 store that sells it here. What kind did you buy and how much did you pay? Their website does not list any prices.

I've heard the stuff is good, but it's so pricey. You can learn to make your own seitan...

They are pricey and small. I've had them, but infrequently because of the size and the small quantity.

If I were to try one again, I'd make it in the slow cooker as I did with the Tofurky. Use two of them, add 2 cans of jellied cranberry sauce, 2 packets french onion soup, 1/4 cup of low sodium soy sauce and red pepper flakes to taste.

This makes a tasty sweet and sour sauce that is vaguely Asian - barbequed tasting. And it's so easy.

If you have Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or Wegman's around you, they carry it.

The loaf cost $8.91. It weighs 1 pound and is 5 and one-half inches long, 3 inches wide, and 2 inches high. The label says it has 4 servings, 340 calories per serving and 190 calories are from fat.

Bongo, thank you for posting the link. The store I sent to only had the original Field Roast. The Celebration Roast looks more interesting. I'll pick one of those up to try if I come across one.
