My wife is vegetarian. I eat chicken only, when I am out of the house. She doesn't cook it, I don't eat it.

Could you post the recipe for beanballs? Thanks.

My husband and son are meat-eaters, me and my daughter are vegetarians. We all pretty much cook our own food.

Bean Balls from Veganomicon

20-ounce can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus additional for baking
2 cloves garlic, grated or finely minced
1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
1/4 cup vital wheat gluten
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme

Preheat oven to 375
Mash the kidney beans in a mixing bowl until no whole beans are left. (Start with a potato masher and end with a fork.) You should still be able to recognize that they are kidney beans. Add soy sauce, tomato paste, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, garlic, bread crumbs, wheat gluten, and herbs; using a fork to mix everything. Roll the bean mixture into walnut-sized balls.

Grease a rimmed baking sheet with olive oil. Place bean balls on it and drizzle lightly with oil. Bake for 15 minutes until lightly browned on the bottom and then flip them and back for another 10 minutes.

I use these bean balls for spaghetti and "bean"balls, "Bean"ball subs, and sometimes just eat them plain with some ketchup. My non-vegan/non-vegetarian friends like them as well.

my daughter and I are vegetarians (she just turned 5) and dh is an omnivore. I cook all the meals (his cooking is gross, lol). what we do is just make vegetarian meals and then have a piece of flesh for hubby most of the time. for example, if I make a pasta dish, say with a vegetarian sauce, I'll have a piece of baked chicken for him, or some sort of turkey herb sausage or something. sometimes he eats vegetarian meals. He also eats meat on his own, at lunch or stuff. for the most part we don't make fun of him at dinner, tho dd wants to know why he's eating a dead chicken.

we've recently had to go primarily vegan because of dd's severe milk intolerance (*sigh*). That should be fun. we're all going to be vegan with dh's slab of dead whatever.

in any event, it is possible to have a split household where family meals are possible. my feeling is that we're all going to eat the same thing, or close to it. I'm not a short order cook.

Funny post, fewer than 6 months go by, and I give up on meat too.

This may be a bit off-topic, but have you found anything to replace the cow's milk with? There's a product called Whole Grain drink which I haven't tried yet. It's made by Trader Joe's and consists of brown rice, amaranth, millet and quinoa. It's also gluten free.

I use Brown Rice milk for cereals, etc., but haven't tried the Whole Grain drink. It's also Tetra-packed, so it's shelf-stable for one year.

since dd's so young, we're really trying to get something tasty with protein and that isn't a ton of soy. so what we do is give her a mix of soy milk and coconut milk (1/3 soy, 2/3 coconut milk). she drinks two cups of this a day. til we get our diet figured out, we're going to have to add the soy to the coconut milk.

she hated rice milk (too watery). haven't tried hemp milk yet. heard from another parent that it's good.

sadly, we don't have a trader joe's here in colorado ( ), so we haven't tried that whole grain drink. it has quinoa, so it must have some protein in it. wonder if it's tasty...do let me know.
