I can confirm that dairy is what made me a fat vegetarian, especially cheese. Once I cut it out, I came back down to my proper weight.

Vegetarians can definitely be fat. If you replace your cheeseburger with roasted vegetables you'll probably lose weight. If you replace it with a cheese pizza, you probably won't.

Well, sorry, I guess that it is not for you. Some people are vegetarian/vegan for political or religious regions; they may actually enjoy a nice steak, but they abstain because they are against factory farming, for example. Then you have vegetarians/vegans who are into it simply because of the health reasons. These people make up the bulk of veg-heads and since their goal is mainly to be healthy, they tend to do other things like exercise; which they would do anyways if they at an animal-based diet.

One of my friends used to prattle on about how healthy her eating habits were, how much she knows about the 'right food' to eat, etc. In the meantime, I noticed her portion of 'healthy' salad was enough to feed 3, was chock full of stinky cheese, and that the dressing had more fat than a cheeseburger.

It was no surprise she was 40-50 pounds overweight.

Vegetarian or vegan does not necessarily mean healthy.

It's all about personal responsibility whether you eat meat or not.

Some people think cheese, coffee cake and Twizzlers are vegetables. If they are actually eating unprocessed plant-based foods, they will be nice and slim.

AND zitless.

This applies to me, and also chielgirls comments on cheese and dairy.

I eat lots of fruit/veg, no cake/pies, but LOVE wholewheat pasta and crackers and brown rice.

I have seen fat vegetarians, carbo loading.
Breakfast; peanut butter, banana, honey sandwich, apple juice
Lunch: pasta with veggies and sauce
Snack; veggie pizza with fake cheese.
Dinner: bread, eggplant dripping in olive oil, deep fried tofu, french fries.

Wow, what a "healthy" vegetarian diet. Did I forget the carrot cake, no frosting? But he ate the whole cake?!

Also, while it's generally true that the more you eat, the bigger you will become, you could have a large bowl of veggies and you're eating less calories, and satisfying your appetite much more, than you would by eating a beef steak and some fries.
I will say that since I switched to a plant based diet, that I feel as if I'm constantly full, although I've lost weight at the same time. I will add that I have also eliminated all junk foods and sweets. I may do one sweet treat a week but that's it. If I can't read the label then I don't eat it, and I prepare 95% of what I eat.

I lose weight when I eat unprocessed, whole carbs like oatmeal. When I eat processed carbs, like sugar, I look like the Great Wall of China on a bad day.
