I got a job in Woodland Hills, where I need to be at work at 8:30 AM. I am driving from Oxnard until I can move closer. How early should I leave Oxnard to get to Woodland Hills? Should I maybe try getting there by 8 AM or something so I beat traffic? Am I dreaming?

It's possible....you will probably get stuck in afternoon traffic more so than in the morning. I'd leave a good hour to be on the safe side. It's doable.

Default One hour total or one hour extra?

Thanks for your reply. It takes 1 hour to get there without traffic. Are you suggesting that I give myself 1 extra hour (2 hours total) to be on the safe side?

Did you take 101 all the way or Rice/Santa Clara/118 to Topanga? I am not saying the latter is faster, just curious.

Default 101

I didn't know about the other route. I usually take 101 all the way through.

I did this same commute for 4 years. It takes one hour in the morning and once you get to Calabassas the right lane is always the fastest on the 101. Who knows why??? It just is. Also leaving in the afternoon, if I left by 4:00 PM I could get back to Oxnard in an hour. If I left anytime after 4:00, traffic would back up in Thousand Oaks making it a good two hour trip in the car on the ride home.

Tune 1070 on the AM dial. They give freeway traffic reports every 8 minutes or so. This can save your butt sometimes with traffic accidents. Know your alternate routes well. Take the time to drive them in advance. Know your battle plan.

I always prefer to leave very early and grab a coffee in the valley if I have excess time.

Get a job in Ventura.
