When I lived in Moorpark, before the 118/23 connector bridge was constructed, I commuted to Point Mugu through Moorpark and there was this older man Chris Sepulveda who waved to everyone every morning on Spring Road.

Thank you for making me feel old.

Ronald Reagan was still making movies when I was in elementary school. When he became the Governor of California, I was 20, a few month's from becoming am Army 2LT and headed overseas. Two years into his second term I was his military escort and provided security for him during a military event. By the time he became President I was 35, married with three children and my oldest was but two years from entering high school.

Bruce Springsteen wrote a great song about "Glory Days" Those were the days some have, that they have never gotten over, the days when they were young and athletic, usually. Most of us have moved beyond our adolescent lives, and do not refer back to them at every possible moment. My deranged brother still lives his college days although he is 61 years old. Every conversation with him goes back to college. For some it is their military service, many of us are Veterans, but we have had interesting lives since then, some not. I like to reference references to ones glory days by the initials GD.

During my first set of glory days we drove 101 to LA and back frequently, I am surprised that no one liste;, hitting the first stoplight in Ventura when it was green, and holding at 28 mph through town would insure that you hit every light while it was green (this was before the freeway hacked up the town).

Someone else's "glory days" stories will one day be a descendant's family history. I've been doing genealogy/family history for over 28 years and I still kick myself for not writing down all the stories my dad told of his "glory days" before he passed away. He did make a start at writing them down for me, but then Alzheimers started to set in. I'm just glad that I can remember a lot of the stories.

I loved my GD's of childhood and young adulthood, but I don't think I would want to go back. I am busy living FUTURE GD's

By the way Curmugeon, I enjoyed your post about Ronald Reagan.

I loved hearing my grandfather's tales of his glory days in Atlantic City during the first decade and a half of the 20th century. (he was born in '95). I treasure those stories to this day.

By the way, Springsteen couldn't write a great song if his life depended on it. Or sing it.

Your grandfather probably ran into a few of my relatives, then. My family were early arrivals in South Jersey (1680's), even earlier if you count my Lenni Lenape ancestors.

My main area of genealogical research in the USA just happens to be New Jersey. I've run the most popular South Jersey genealogy group on Yahoo! for over 7 years, and have over 70 books on NJ history & genealogy, plus access to old NJ newspapers. Send me a PM with your grandfather's name if you'd ever like me to look for him in my databases

You know who cut down the other 3 trees in Ventura. LOL

Also you know that your from Ventura if

You call California Street "C" street

You Still call the Crown Plaza "The Holiday INN"

You spent summers hanging out at the beach near the Holiday Inn

You tossed an ashtray from the top floor of the Holiday Inn to the dumpster at ground level just to see what it would do.

You remember that they had ashtrays in the hallways of hotels. (Oh that just means you are older than 30.)

You remember going to the Mann Theatre across from the Buena Ventura Mall and choosing between the two movies that were playing.

You still find yourself calling the Pacific View Mall by its former name the Buena Ventura Mall

You crused Main street on a Friday Night.

You know that the West East dividing line is Ventura Avenue and that 90% of Ventura is in the Eastern part of the city

You know who created the Perry Mason books and have been to or walked past his old office building.

When you turned 21 you headed off to the Bombay Bar and Grill

You know you grew up in Simi Valley when....

You remember when Mountain Gate Plaze was called Larwin Square, and you STILL call it that!

You know who Sid Haig is

You remember when Snookies opened and caused all kinds of hell!

You can point out the Poltergeist House to tourists

You remember when the Cultural Arts Center used to be a funeral home (my brother's friend lived there. He spent the night ONCE and never did it again!)
