Does anyone have a strong opinion about the middle schools. We are looking into Colina, Redwood, and Los Cerritos. Just curious and would appreciate any imput. Thanks!

All I can say is that I am a product of Redwood from the early 90's and I turned out alright.

Our neighborhood school is Redwood and that is where we are leaning toward but we are also thinking Bridges Charter. I like the idea of a smaller safer school but I don't want to hold my daughter back. I am wondering if anyone has had a very positive or negative experience in the larger middle schools or if they chose one over the other and based on what? Thanks so much again!

I would choose Los Cerritos. New principal has been a plus, strong academics and strong extracurricular. Music program very strong. Bridges is too young to know what will happen. It does not seem strong in academics. From Los Cerritos you can choose to move to TOHS or WHS. I strongly recommend LCMS--strong academics AND good extracurricular=a well-rounded happy kid.

I work for CVUSD and I will tell you that Colina and Redwood are the two schools that everyone wants their kids to attend. My kids went to Redwood and we really liked that school. I would not suggest Bridges, its brand new and I heard that some of their core people recently left.

Back in my day Redwood was where the smart kids went, Colina where the thuggish kids went, and Los Cerritos was where the "special" kids went. Of course that was mostly just what the kids from Redwood said.
