Would this commute be atrocious? I currently live in Santa Monica and may be interviewing for a job in TO...need to know if worth it.

You'd be going against traffic so it shouldn't be so bad. You can drive up PCH and take Malibu Canyon or Kanan Dune to the 101.

I knew a dude that commuted from Santa Monica to Woodland Hills for about a year. His explanation was like this:

"Topanga canyon takes 45 minutes, period. Sometimes but rarely more, never less. But the 405 to 101 can take from 20 minutes to an hour and a half, it's a gamble"

It is, as stated a reverse commute.

Hi there I will be starting a job in TO and want to live in SM
I wonder if you did take the job in TO and commuted from SM to TO and was your experice?
