Default Advice needed- moving from TO to South Florida

I am possibly moving from TO to South Florida. Is anyone familiar with the area there and able to recommend something comparable to TO?

Why in the world would you want to move to any part of South Florida from TO. The weather alone is going to be miserable. The only place worth a look is the Keys.

Many reasons for the move. I know the weather will be much different. However, I would like to find somewhere that has a similar feel to TO (accessible to big city, but not in the big city) if possible.

West Palm Beach, Coral Gables or Jupiter might be places to start looking.

Shouldn't you be asking Florida residents?

Yes, I posted in the FL forums as well. I figured prleopke in this forum would probably have a pretty good feel for Ventura County so it wouldn't hurt to post two places.

I moved to TO this summer from Boca Raton in S FL where I was living for a few years. S FL varies a lot but I can't think of a place similar to TO. Some areas somewhat similar would be Boca,Jupiter,Palm Beach Gardens,Westin,Parkland. All have an older aged population and for ex Boca is very seasonal where you get the snow birds for the winter months but that is also for Jupiter etc. There are some families though as well. In terms of safety none will be as safe on the whole as TO. Some places such as West Palm there are some very high crime parts and some nicer. It can go from mile to mile drastic difference.
The weather and I am always cold is very humid and hard to tolerate. Even inside you feel sticky. This lasts for 7 months.
Will you be employed there or retiring? If you are not employed and need to be before you move I suggest you find something. I know college grads who are working at drug stores because of the lack of employment.
I can try to answer any questions you have if you give me more info

Moved from Moorpark to Germany 2 yrs ago, and just relocated to Punta Gorda in SW Florida. We decided on PG because it is smaller, and has less insane high season traffic than Sarasota or Ft Myers. Many homes are on salt water canals with access to the Gulf, but are still reasonably priced, which is what we were looking for; the same thing in the Keys starts at a million. People are very laid back and extremely friendly, and we're very happy with our decision so far. That being said, the summers are no picnic when you're used to dry TO weather. It's not really that hot (95), but it's the humidity that's bothersome. I don't mind it, and the fishing is great, so summers aren't a problem for me. Check out the Punta Gorda - Port Charlotte forum, very helpful folks there.

I am reading this here in Miami and thinking of moving to V.C or TO. (possible job relocate)What a difference in the two places even though I have not been to southern Ca since 1990, went to san fran in 2008 but anywho. My only contribution is that I will miss the beach here if I leave. There are pluses and minuses to this place like everywhere. I have been here 10 years and would like a change. If you like a cool night life, great eats, beautiful women with full tanned bods and not much in cultural events, this is the place to be
Did I mention the rents are high and the salaries are low?????
