Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know about living in Ventura co. (Camarillo) as a low income family of 4? My wife will be a stay at home mom and home schools our children, for now. Our children are both under the age of 10. My family will be moving from the East coast to Camarillo within the next month or so. My salary will start out under $43,000 with a $10,000 raise at year two. I have searched and studies a little about low income housing and HUD. Do you all know about these programs and how they work? Without some type of help, I do not think my family can survive financially.

Click on the link- when you get into the website- read through all the sections carefully- the info you're looking for is in there. Its a city website.

Unfortunately, the HUD program you're thinking of has a long waiting list and the city is not even taking any more applications. But read anyway to see what you have to do and if they are any city housing projects that may be available.

I have heard of people taking a couple years to get into a low income place. Most places are going to want a monthly income that is equal to 3X the monthly rent. With your income that will be hard to get. You may need to find a second job to make it out here. Not hard to do if your wife is a stay at home mom. Look to spend $1,500 a month on rent for a 2 bedroom. You would need to have an income of $4,500 a month or about $917 additional a month. You may be able to find lower cost places in South Oxnard. Just have to look around.

Not wanting to be mean, but - have your wife get a job if you can't afford your life! Like other people do.

Leave the low income housing to people who REALLY need it.

Or don't move to a way more expensive area as where you are now.
