Our family is in the process of moving to the LA area & I will be working down town. My high schooler is an avid swimmer. We are considering Westlake Village, but I cannot find information on commuting to downtown. Help?

Other suggestions for commuting? I'd even consider Long Beach and ride the Blue Line in.

Thank you!

There is no perfect way to commute to downtown from Westlake Village. Unless you flex your hours (like start work at 6AM and leave for home at 2:30), then it will be really rough. An alternative is live near the train route (Camarillo, Simi, Chatsworth,....downtown).

TO High School and Westlake High School have great swimming programs. Both (and I should mention Newbury Park HS too) have their own outdoor pools.

There are few better places in SoCal than Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, Conejo Valley to raise kids.

A few years ago I read something that the Oaks christian academy hired the Russian Olympic swim coach. It is in WV between Westlake and Lindero Canyon.

Hi there,
We live in Agoura/Oak Park...I know Agoura high has a really good water polo team...but I havent heard much about swim teams...they do have their own pool.

Commute to downtown...my husband leaves the house around 5:20am and he is 35 miles to his job downtown. It takes him about 45 minutes going in...dont ask about coming home...it could be anywhere from an hour...if he leaves before 4pm, or 2.5 hours, if there's an accident or whatever...it's LA traffic and you never know. I would say that at least 2-3 days a week it's a mess.

Unfortunately you've picked Westlake Village, one of the most car-obsessed areas around, where car-and-driver and clogged freeways rule. Instead of the Blue Line route from Long Beach (that's quite an effort) consider using Metrolink from Moorpark. Westlake Village is connected to the train station in Moorpark by VISTA, Ventura County's inter-city express bus service. Try these resources for more info:

Metrolink :: Ventura County Line
Ventura County Transportation Commission (http://www.goventura.org/vista/east_n.htm - broken link) (VISTA East County route)

Good luck and let us know how you do!
