I've lived in Oxnard for the past 2 years and I can't wait to get out of here. First of all, I work in the Valley and the commute is unbelievable. The cost of gas (even now with the lower gas prices and I drive a mid size car) is through the roof. It takes me almost 2 hours to get to work. There are really no jobs in Oxnard unless you want a $9.00 hour retail job in a supermarket. Everything is closed at 10:00 pm except for Ralphs & Vons. There is no social life here, unless you are a boxer. There's a boxing gym nearby. The apartments aren't that great unless you're looking to plunk down over $2,200 for a 2 bedroom and then they're just average. It's cold in the summer and the marine layer has the look and feel of England. The beaches are freezing cold and really windy even in the summer. I've walked on cold sand in the middle of July. Trust me, for this inconvenience there are a lot of nicer places to live. I'm looking at Thousand Oaks and Malibu now. There are dumpster divers everywhere and will scare the crap outta you to see someone crawling out of a dumpster in the middle of the night. My lease is up next month and I can't wait to get outta here. This is God's waiting room.

Malibu's great but remote, not a straight commute. Topanga Cyn and Malibu Cyn get very dicey when it rains, the latter has a lot of rock falls, most minor, some not so. Kanan is better, but it's longer. Decker Cyn is a definite no-no unless you like twists and turns. And when there is any kind of problem on PCH, which happens regularly, the canyon roads really jam with the commuters to the 101. And you will still deal with marine layer and chills.

Look at Agoura Hills and Westlake in addition to Thousand Oaks.

Yea, it is 82 degrees right now in February here in Oxnard. Just wondering why in the world did you move here if your job was in the Valley? Not sure what your field is in but there are a lot of employers that pay way more than $9 an hour in the Oxnard, Ventura, Camarillo area. I have not worked for less than $15 an hour in over 20 years and I have only worked around here. Also way more to do here than just Boxing, although we do have some of that going on.
