I'm considering relocating to the area from San Diego and would welcome any and all advice about finding apartment/cottage/house/duplex rentals in the $1500-2000/month range. Ideally, the unit would have W/D (or at least or W/D hookup), dishwasher, full bath (with tub), and full kitchen, with either a garage or at least one off-street parking space. I'm a single, professional, female that would be living alone so would like to know the safest neighborhoods to live in. I'm looking at Ventura, Carpinteria, Ojai, and Santa Barbara and would like more clarity about which neighborhoods to stay away from (i.e., really don't want to live in an area with lots of crime, burglary, or car-break ins/stealing, gang activity, bums, or loud college parties) and which neighborhoods are safe (e.g., you would feel safe as a single female walking alone early AM or after dark and you feel reasonably certain no one is going to be hopping through your window).

Carpinteria and Santa Barbara would be most convenient, but I see lots of place with only kitchenettes that seem overpriced for what you get. I know these are tough markets and that inventory is limited, but for 1500-2000, I'd at least like the ability to cook when I get home. I don't have a need for a lot of night life, but some restaurants and shops within driving or walking distance would be nice.

If you have any Property Management company suggestions, that would also be great. Thanks for any input you can share about these three areas.

It's sad but the rental market will stun you. Presently my husband and I live on the Westside. I suggest looking for one or more roommates as two bedroom one baths are priced at $2300/month or higher with three bedroom one bath places are up to $2900. Frankly this native born Californian is moving out of state as fast as possible. The reality is lots of people in smaller spaces.
