So, me and my older sister (who lives in San Diego) are going to travel up to Oxnard on Tuesday to visit our younger brother (long story on that).

I figured that it would take a bit over two hours to get up there from where I live (Jurupa Valley, in Riverside County).

It will be my first time up there, so I don't have much of an idea of that city (or Ventura County in general) yet. I have only lived in Riverside County for almost my whole life, and have been to only six other counties of all 58 in CA (San Bernardino, Orange, San Diego, Los Angeles, Inyo, and Mono).

Now, I have several questions (please, answer any of the following, if you would like):

What points of interest would you suggest we come across while in Oxnard (besides the pier and beach, obviously)?

Any great or special restaurants in particular?

How good or bad do any of you personally think is Oxnard overall (ergo, what areas of Oxnard should we avoid in terms of crime, gang activity, lower socioeconomics, etc.)?

How cold is the Pacific Ocean up in Ventura County on average?

Any other opinions, suggestions, or advice you can give on here about Oxnard?

The reason I ask the third question is because I have read some threads on Oxnard, and, a lot of times, it doesn't exactly seem to have the most favorable reputation in CA. I was born and raised in Indio (out in the desert in the Coachella Valley, near Palm Springs), which doesn't exactly have the best reputation all around, either. What exactly gives?

Another question: how do you think the overall crime in Oxnard would compare to that of the overall crime in Indio (or in Jurupa Valley)?

Any answers will be appreciated. Thank you!

If you can, take the PCH route

Otherwise, there is a Chik Fil A by the Freeway

That said, not really much going on there.

Thanks! I'll surely keep that in mind, too.

Channel Islands Harbor. Various spots with shopping, dining, and promenades along the water. Picnic tables. If you have the time, take Island Packers boat out the Anacapa for a day trip.

Pho Saigon is really good.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you're planning on wandering around alone with a fat stack in your pocket at 2AM.

65-70. It's near 70 now. Very nice with the heat.

There is a cool/free museum about the Seabee's there. Worth a visit if you are into that sort of thing.

Quite a bit pricier than they used to be, but the best clam chowder anywhere. Seriously.
You can order from the small menu and save some cash.
