I would like to take my family out for dinner, am visiting from east coast and really dont want my Mom to cook this year. She says nothing is open. Can anyone suggest something that really is open, like Marie Calendars or Mimi's? I don't really care about Denny's or fast food places.

There's all sorts of neat non-chain (like Marie Calendars or Mimi's) in the Ventura, Summerland, Channel Islands, Carpenteria, Montecito, and Santa Barbara areas. The Big Yellow House, Pierpont, and lots of little restaurants (which may not be open) in Ventura.

In Ventura Harbor alone:

On Christmas your best bet is Chinese food as a few of them around the area are open. One of my favorites for Christmas is the Chinese Dumpling House in Port Hueneme.
