Find an area where you can do with others that you like to do yourself. Here in Colchester (just outside of Burlington) we have a large woodshop that people pay a membership. It's much cheaper than spending thousands to tens of thousands of dollars on tools. The real bonus is you get to be around others, get assistance, collaborate, etc with people having the same interests. At one point this was the only shop of it's kind in the state. I'm not sure if there is another one in the state now. It is a very expensive endeavor in tools alone. If one of the reasons for moving here is to do crafts with others and you live in an area where people don't have the same likes, then you may not be happy with your move.

To me it's about going "back to basics" and finding hidden skills and talents inside of ourselves that we never knew existed...We spend most of our life as "specialists" focusing on a single career or two...and never really explore the rest of "who we are" or "who we could be."

My husband would love to be part of something like this. If you hear of anything near Rutland, please let us know.
