For years I drove through Waitsfield / Moretown on a regular basis and there were similar works on the side of Rte 100. And there they stayed, undisturbed. At least to my out of town eyes.

Well, in VT you don't really own your property, so this comes as no surprise.

NPR along with a bunch of other national news outlets have run the story. The irony is strong on this one. The authors of act 250 moved to VT so they could build giant dinosaur sculptures in their fields without hassle. Few miles down the road on RTE 113 near the 91 exit there has been a 20' or so tall stick figure statue in someone's front yard for a few years. Not as big as the dinosaur but uglier and more on the traveled path if that is what is upsetting the lords.

It's a tough call. I have no problem with these sculptures, but the average native vermonter likes to collect rusty bed springs and rusty 60's cars and display them by the road, claiming the art exemption.

There's an easy solution to that: just mind your own business.

1. This just isn't true.

2. Do you really have to seize on every post relating to Vermont as an opportunity to badmouth the state, the politics of the state, and the way your fellow citizens have chosen to govern themselves?

Please explain what this means. We've acted as though we've owned our property in Vermont for more than a decade and no one has challenged that. Can we do absolutely anything regarding our property? Of course not. Nor would I want to live in a place with that much "freedom" (which is anything but when you're part of a community).

Luckily, where I live in Vermont, regulations don't reflect that extreme viewpoint when it comes to things like stinking, rotting trash on adjoining properties. I'm grateful to have had recourse that got results when our respectful requests (and even sincere offers to help) did not.
