I have a place in Chester.

Movie theater: Bellows Falls Opera House in Bellows Falls. It shows 1 movie at a time, sometimes will offer an earlier family-friendly show if the 'main' presentation is R rated.

Mall? Define mall. There are strip malls in Springfield, there's outlet shopping in Manchester. (Not like Tanger or Bell, though. This is spaced out and not the most walker friendly. If you're looking for a large corporate mall chain, there's nothing close by. You could drive to Keane, NH for a lot of the big box stores, or up to Lebanon, NH.

Hanover is over an hour drive from Chester, depending on what part of Chester you're in. Chester is 50 sq miles; my friend's part of town is far closer to Springfield and I-91 than where I am. She's at least 15 mins closer to I-91.

Schools -- I considered moving full time, but ultimately decided against it as the caliber of school was not the same as the school district my children are in here in NY. I live in a well regarded school district in NY, it is unfair to try to compare apples and oranges. Once my youngest graduates, then I would consider moving to Chester full time. Do not what I've written concerning schools shade your opinion -- I don't know how the schools are where you would be relocating from.

People I've dealt with in Chester are friendly, however those are mostly shopkeepers -- some of whom have relocated to the area. I know some of my neighbors who have come and introduced themselves when we bought the house. They, too, were relocatees. The long term residents appear to be a little more reserved; I suppose they wanted to be certain that we weren't trying to turn the area into NY. I don't blame them for that as I would probably be the same way.

It's a beautiful area which boasts lots of four season recreation.

It's not a place where there is a lot of employment outside of service jobs and even then, those might be a little scarce.

If you have a job in Hanover, NH, you might want to look further north for housing. Chester is pretty to come home to, but I wouldn't want to drive between Hanover and Chester on a regular basis, especially when the weather is foul.
