I am just curious due to one of the responding posts to the other thread I have on the Vermont forum.

One RP (sort of) inferred that trapping is legal in Vermont versus not in Colorado. This leads into Vermonter's attitudes about hunting which from what I've seen in travel shows is either tollerated or celebrated.

So, that leads into my question and discussion about attitudes towards general firearms in Vermont whether they are sidearms or rifles or semi-auto 'assault-style' rifles?

Are they tolerated? Are they not? Mixed bag?

I don't want to start controversy. Just curious.

Vermont is one of the only states that allows un-licensed CCW. I would say thats pretty tolerant.

You'll run into antis in Burlington and thereabouts, and around Brattleboro, but overall, there's widespread support for hunting and guns in general (incl. handguns, semi-autos, etc.). There's probably more guns than people here. lol

Hunting is a way of life in many areas of Vermont, thankfully in my opinion as I spend 6-7 months hunting there. Firearms in general are accepted as tools just like a knife or axe or chainsaw.

On the topic of concealed carry, all sorts of people do it. I was always real surprised to learn who carried when I lived in Windham County a few years ago.

Once I sold a car to a guy who was in a three-person relationship with a man and a woman. They all lived together. We had to go to the Springfield DMV to do some paperwork, and as we were getting out of the car, the man said "oh, woops, can't bring this into a state office," and pulled out a massive pistol from his jacket and tucked it under the passenger seat of my/his Volkswagen. On the way back south we discussed the gay gun club he and his partners belong to.

It was such a Vermont moment. I love that the state can be very welcoming to people living alternative lifestyles and also those who are into firearms - and those people who are into both!

I agree! Vermont, all the way around. Worthy of rural legendary status for years to come.
