Hi Everyone,

I just moved to Vermont for grad school and recently registered my car at the DMV. I'm a little confused as to whether I received my title because the only piece of paper I got back was the carbon copy of the form I filled out at the DMV office. It has all the appropriate spaces for transferring the title but am unsure whether its the real thing. My previous title was from Virginia and looked rather "official", hologram, watermarked paper, etc.

Is this carbon copy the real deal?

Thanks.

Richard

What you have is a temporary registration. It affords you all the owner's rights including sale of the vehicle. The permanent title and registration will arrive in the mail in about 10 days, provided there isn't a lien holder. In the event that there is, that party will receive the title. You will receive the registration card either way. I'm a little surprised they didn't tell you that at DMV.

Thanks for the info. That's a relieve. No they didn't tell me at the DMV. But I'm not surprised, the lady at the DMV was pretty rude and demeaning. Oh well, it's the DMV.

Thanks!
Richard

Other than having to wait on occasion, I've never had a bad experience with the clerks at DMV - but then I've only been to the offices in Newport and Montpelier. Trust me, everyone in VT isn't like that. Maybe you would be doing others a favor by calling her supervisor and letting them know how things went.

Which office did the OP go to? I use Springfield and the employees are very pleasant and helpful.

I'm not currently living in Vermont...but if I was NOT greeted rudely in Northern Virginia....I'd sure as heck think I was in the wrong state. Pleasant and helpful - I'm not sure I'd know how to act!
