They only put their application together last week but It's the WINNER!!!!!!!! From a Vermont perspective it's actually a small city with a hospital and a nuclear power plant just down the road.
What's even more amazing is that the video was done by the 17yo son of the local video store owner on borrowed equipment.

Just down the road from me, I suspect tickets will be very hard to come by but I'll head down to spectate and try to get some autographs either way.
This is a HUGE deal for Springfield VT, that town needs all the good news it can get.

I was born and raised in Springfield and left the town to attend college and find employment, however my family remains in Springfield. They are very active in community activities and enjoy the bike path, restaurants, library and coffee shops. Springfield definitely has a bad rap, but I don't know that it's much different than any other Vermont towns that aren't focused on tourism (Stowe, Woodstock, other skiing towns) or have a huge influence from the colleges (Burlington). Springfield is a pretty, clean, fine place to live. There isn't much work in Springfield, but that's rural Vermont for you! I'm sure rural towns in other states are much the same. Hooray for Springfield! In my opinion it fits the Simpson's Springfield very well.

Absolutely! This is just great! I continually say that VT is not given even credit aside from maple syrup, the ski industry and foliage.....!

Here's hoping all this publicity is not the kiss of death for the town or its way of life. So often all it takes is some major media attention, the hordes flock in, and the town is gone.

I think regarding economic developement in the last 10 years Springfield has pretty much been left out in the cold. Windsor, just up the road got the new state prison, Harpoon Brewery and has a famous covered bridge.
This publicity can only help economically and hopefully Springfield can use it as a springboard for other positive things to happen. Raising my glass to Springfield!

This is an old thread but Windsor got the new womens prison and Springfield did get the a new mens prison. Windsor is just up the road from Springfield so I think we are splitting hairs as they are both in the same area.

Going back to the Simpsons -- the movie theatre in Springfield (actually the entire building, apartments and all) had a huge fire back in July this year.
A year before the premiere we had been to the Springfield Theatre to see a movie -- my-oh-my that place was sleazy: dirty, damp, and musty. We never went back. From what I was told, they hadn't done much in the way of improvements between that time and the Simpsons premiere in 2007. The owners must have been working around the clock to have made the theatre halfway decent in time for the premiere.
