The Vermont House passed it and it is expected to pass the Senate and the Governor is going to sign it.

I think this is going to be a disaster especially when you factor in the recent survey done of doctors in VT.

Here are som responses from the recent survey.

Survey of doctors on single-payer causes stir at Vt. Statehouse - WCAX.COM Local Vermont News, Weather and Sports-

"The question was, are you likely to stop practicing in medicine in Vermont if a government-run single-payer were initiated? Overall 28 percent answered yes to that, 53 percent answered no, the rest were neutral," Till said.

Rep. George Till: We are already short of primary care physician in 11 of 14 counties. We are already short of specialist care physicians. Fourteen percent said they would stop practicing in Vermont. The specialist physicians the number was 37.4 percent. They were likely to stop practicing in Vermont.

We heard from several hospital CEOs in testimony in the house. Already this discussion of a single-payer system is inhibiting their recruiting.

My thoughts one a single payer system is it does nothing to curb the spiraling cost of health care. It's not a long term solution. It doesn't treat the root of the problem, it just changes who picks up the tab.

I'm glad you started this thread as I had been meaning to start one but kept forgetting. I hope I don't come off as an idiot, but can someone explain, in layman's terms, what the single payer system entails? I tried looking it up and didn't really find anything that helped me understand.

We could research single payer until we're blue in the face, but it's premature. H.202 forms a commission to create the roadmap to universal healthcare coverage in Vermont. Single payer is just one possible system.

Doctors plan to move TO Vermont that want to practice with the program. It is truly a great thing. There is lots of information out there. This is just one link, I will find more and post them. Have a good day guys. I am very excited about this.

It's a bad idea. It's one thing to have programs to provide healthcare for those who can't afford it, and entirely another to put the government in charge of everyone's healthcare. It will lead to shortages of medical professionals, rationing of care, delays, etc. This state can't afford to pay for everyone's healthcare without either raising taxes or limiting care.

Doctors plan to move to VT that want to practice with the program? Really? Please post the data showing that?

There is already a MASSIVE shortage of specialist care physicians in VT. There was a recent post about how its almost impossible to currently find one in some areas.

37.4 percent said they would leave the state if single payer was adopted.

S/he did post the link to the data. Anecdotally, I've spoken with my docs and colleagues who are docs, and not one has any intention of leaving Vermont if the roadmap to universal coverage results in single payer. Also anecdotally, recently a large percentage of doctors insisted they would leave a major (for Vermont) medical center when records went from paper to electronic. Not one actually left.

Political propaganda is all that site is. Hardly unbiased.

As for a small number of doctors moving to VT for single payer, I highly doubt that. Other states that have created single payer systems have had nothing but problems and doctor shortages.
