Question How Honest or Corrupt is Vermont?

How honest or corrupt is Vermont?

I used to live in Rhode Island and it is known as an extremely corrupt state.
New York is also a corrupt state, I think.

I would assume Vermont is near the top of the list for clean government, but that's just an assumption.

Is my assumption correct?

Read the local news. There are frequent cases of theft and embezzelment in Vermont both in the public and private sector. I might also point out that the punishments are not very strong, hence the temptation for some must be quite great. There is no such animal as a "clean" government.

Good point. The ex CEO at Fletcher Allen Health Care was a prime example. He basically got off with a slap on the hand for his crimes.

To me, especially after relocating to FL and living Pa and
becoming active in fighting it....Development is the best
gauge of how corrupt your governement is. Developers
pretty much own a HUGE percentage of local Pols all over the
USA, so when you see little development, such as is the case
with VT., it means minimal corruption.
In Rutland, they recently busted the controller and another local
sheriff (surprise there ).
Here in FL, a day doesnt pass without an article about a public
official caught taking bribes from a developer. You can ride
up Rt.1 an see the results, too. In Pa, we actually SAW money
being passed !!
Corruption is everywhere but I believe Vermont has a little less
than the uncivilized world.

LOL, was just talking about this topic this morning. I lived in Boston for 6 years. Seems like everything there was corrupt. Ya, it's everywhere though, even here in little ol'Vermont. Nothing too major though...the other posters have already stated the examples I thougt of.

There's a list here: http://www.corporatecrimereporter.com/corruptreport.pdf Vermont's in the bottom third, but by no means the least corrupt (although our neighbor to the east, New Hampshire was in the Top Ten for least corrupt).
