Default Waitsfield <--> Bristol commute

Has anyone done this commute on a regular basis? Mapquest says it's about 40 minutes, but I worry about the App Gap in winter... Any thoughts?

People do it..... Yes, the road is well maintained, but it's very steep & curvy. I'm not sure I'd want to do it during a raging storm. It's only 20 or so miles, but because of the road, 40 minutes is about right. I guess it all depends on how comfortable you are on moutainous roads.
Do you already live in Waitsfield? If not, Bristol is a nice community. I'd live there.

Thanks for the quick feedback, Vter. I'm pretty comfortable driving mountain passes, but I'm sure on snowy mornings it might be tough... Ideally, we'd like to find a place in Bristol or Lincoln, but we haven't had much luck with the rental or housing market down there. We'll keep looking but might have to go for a place in Waitsfield for the time being...

Try the Addison Independent for rentals. Addison Independent Don't rule out Vergennes or Middlebury for options.

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. I've been combing through both papers daily (online). Maybe we're just a little too picky... We want to be IN the mountains (or Bristol village), with easy access to xc and backcountry skiing/hiking/biking, etc. We'll see what comes of the search!

I think that you'll find that there is more snow on the eastern side of the ap-gap. Bristol, though somewhat elevated , is still a part of the Champlain valley. Vergennes, some fifteen miles away, went the entire winter of 05-06 without any snow to speak of.
