I grew up here and went to college, then left for a large east coast city. After about 5 years I was itching to come back and did it. I don't regret my decision one bit.

How much did you miss Vermont because of Vermont's special qualities? And how much did you miss it simply because it was home?

I missed the slow pace of life, the non-materialism, the scenery, and the people.

I guess its has to do with what your expectations were
when you moved there if you arent a native or know the
area very well.
My stay in VT was bitersweet. Ill have nice some nice
memories but very glad to be gone. Im sure I will visit again
and it will be nice knowing I get to leave when I want.

I moved here from central NH 20 years ago. The running joke in my family is that you can't get me to leave VT even for short visits. Although this is not entirely true, it's pretty close. I just feel comfortable here. My wife and I chose to be here and it has worked out. We didn't get rich, but that was not part of our plan. We are paupers compared to the relatives we left behind in NH but no less happy with our lives.

Same here. Left eastern MA for Southern VT, loved all of the above, however job opportunities were slim, things happened, and life just ended me up back in MA. Central MA is not so bad but it's nowhere like "home". I still miss it very much even though I only lived there less than 10 years. I hope to move back someday, maybe when I'm retired...
