Weather channel website is predicting landfall near NYC as a Cat1. Looks like we'll be getting lots and lots of rain Sun/Mon.

Supposed to be going up the Mansfield toll road with a bunch of other people on Sunday. Hope that doesn't get cancelled!

Still debating...head north to avoid the storm, or stay put and deal with it.

Major storms will always mean trouble for those unlucky enough to be in their paths. Ordinarily, we see a seriously rainy day from a hurricane, but for some reason the projections for Irene have me thinking. Coming right straight up the coast, all the major cities will be affected. Then it's supposed to just plow right into the southern coast of New England, where landfall would usually dissipate the system's energy. But the hurricane of 1938 made it all the way to Quebec and made quick work of the forests in northern New England along the way. I'm seriously hoping that isn't the case this time around.

If I'm reading the latest chart correctly, we can expect sustained winds in the upper 30s to 70 MPH, which is serious business.

Actually Vermont is well into it... Track has shifted West and it supposed to stay a Cat 1 all the way up. This is going to be a wide spread disaster. New update and pic coming in that thread soon...

LOL, I was worried about heading up to Vermont tonight with Irene on track for DC....I have cats and hermit crabs to think about and I hate to miss a good storm! But - right now, we are just going to get nicked - it looks like we'll get hit harder in Vermont so I won't miss it after all! Hopefully I won't miss another solid quake (well, solid for the east coast).

In fact upstate NY just got a couple of little rumbles over the last 24 hours as well as the aftershock we got here in VA this morning. Not sure if that is normal for NY or not...they had a 3.4 and 1.9? Nothing substantial but still seems a little odd to me.
