Was going to start a new thread but figure I post it here... I love the Snowy Owl sightings. An Arctic Bird in the U.S. last year we had sightings in CT in November. I took it as a sign of a bad winter coming. lol
Then the Rough Legged Hawk was seen, another one from the arctic.

Looks like sightings in VT picking up.

Soooo...that begs the question...what IS coming on the way? lol...we're sleeting right now, or something to that effect. Hasn't snowed all day so far.

Yup, the entire setup is fascinating for me. Not to get too technical but there is a storm in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Called an Upper Level Low. When there is an ULL overhead (Summer or Winter) it always means cool, cloudy, with on/off precip. It also means it pushes cold air from way up above down to surface, so as surface cools off, this means more on & off snow.

Looks like it could take till weekend to stop.

Funny seeing NWS Burlington call this a "early" winter storm. I wouldn't think it would be for VT but then again...its only Dec 9th.

Notice last paragraph, on Friday the ULL will be right overhead. Right now it's centered over me. You can always see them by looking at the 500mb Heights. Look for the "circle".

They still have the snow forecast map up but that's a total up until tonight 1am. Have to either read the discussion or see the forecasts for additional snows.

Another link showing all the snow reports just for their coverage area.

I thought there would be less as the day went on but apparently not.

"Now 22,400 statewide, including 16,000 GreenMountainPower Renewed freezing rain/wet snow to worsen it?"

It's been sleeting/raining here for awhile now...since maybe around 11. I'm guessing it's just adding weight to all the trees and making things worse. My temp shows 33 but nothing seems to be melting - I thought warmer temps would get rid of some of the snow on the trees.

Just went to the doctor, in there for 20 minutes, sleet when I went in, huge baseball sized snowflakes when I got out. It has definitely taken a turn for the worse. The roads were pretty clean on my way in to town, completely covered with at least an inch or more of snow on the way back. Definitely should be some accumulation tonight.

This is an impressive storm. Present tense because it's still going on! Definitely have at least a foot here, if not more. Calling for a few more inches between today and tomorrow.

I was wondering why we didn't get plowed this morning. Didn't take too long to find out the answer. Luckily none are broken, just bent. Cleared what I could, hopefully they'll straighten up throughout the day:
