Looks like it won't be as cold as previous weeks of January. Hooray.

Big snow event in the forecast for Tuesday !

Wonder if the anticipated amount (a foot or more) will be downgraded/decreased between now & then, or if it will indeed live up to the hype.

3"-5" tonight, then 9"-13" Tuesday.
Wow
The high winds are more what worry me (not a fan of potential power outages)-I love the snow.
Particularly attention-grabbing part is estimate of 9.8" falling btw. 7 a.m. & 1 p.m. tomorrow. That's a lot in 6 hrs.

Yeah, so sorry guys. I been updating 2 threads for same storm in CT forum and Weather Forum (sometimes double posts). Be safe and enjoy! I'll post pics on the CT Photo thread when I get a chance and if power stays on. Power company said they had out of state crews ready to help if need be.

Hope you all stay safe. I haven't looked into what's going on for VT. I assume southern end would be more than north

13"+ in a single snowstorm is a big deal over in the Connecticut River valley region, because that's what we had in 2011, which was a particularly bad winter. It can mean another summer with 7"+ of rain in a single month and historical flooding.

IOW, having the same amount of snow in a single go as one of a real bad year, is a bad sign.

2011 was a real bad year.

(If that was in Cavendish and Chester, I could care less, because it seems to snow like New York state anyways, LOL.) (At least on Cavendish Gulf road)

2003 and 2004 were the only other bad years:

2003 was known for major snow followed by cold that seemed to never go away. Knee-deep snow was the norm in Windsor. After the first snow storm, seemed to drop to the zeroes every night!

2004 was similar, -30 F post-snowstorm wouldn't be surprising!

2003 and 2004 also had wet Augusts.

(2006 was a different breed, it was just real below-average daytime temps and real above-average rain during late spring and summer. (and possibly during October) )

^This estimate has been scaled back, now it says 6.1" during peak (that time period) & less than 1' total.
Also, cannot guess how much the wind gusts will perturb ability to measure snow accumulation.
All one can do is for now is wait & see how things look once the sun comes up...
