By Saturday it should be more colorless. We are heading back to warmer weather (40's) and rain. The weather this year is more mild than what we saw in 06 and 09. I am not complaining about this regarding my oil bill. I only had one fill up since September.

The pattern looks colder for the end of the month, but the GFS has some big issues with phasing and where the jet stream sets up. Snows possible in the next two weeks, but with the pattern being so mild this season I'm not betting on it.

I appreciate this thread and the continual updates! My son is working his first winter in Vermont.

I check this thread regularly to see how the snow is coming along. I sure hope it picks up.

Thanks, I enjoy it too. Dont forget to post some OBS from either what you heard or what your son tells you.

As far as snow... some spotty light stuff this morning but a bigger event around the 12th. Details still up in the air on that one.
Warmest day of the weekend will be Saturday. Above normal again.

Here's from NWS Burlington for this morning:

"LIGHT SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH EAST/NORTHEAST THROUGH THE REGION THIS MORNING WITH ACCUMULATIONS ONLY RANGING FROM A DUSTING TO 2 INCHES"

Edit: If you want, bookmark this page..I usually post there a lot(mostly about CT but say general things once in a while).

I'll do my best to contribute. I don't get very solid information. One day I'll hear, "We're supposed to get a huge 24" storm in a few days." A few days later I hear, "Oh, no! The mountain is GREEN" because that huge storm ended up being rain and melted the snow. I haven't heard that in a while. I'm hoping it's just a late season, not a mild winter. Hopefully next month will bring blizzard after blizzard all the way to the end of April. We can dream.

Upper 50s down here. lol. Cant wait to see all the records broken. Islip, Long Island already broke the record high temp "this morning". lol

In the sun it feels like low 60s. I was tilling the soil and now in shorts cause it got too hot.

Current temps as of 1:14pm January 7, 2012
South Flow winds.

Last day of this. Cold front moves through tonight. Low pressure to the north will bring scattered rain and snow showers today.

Thursday January 12, 2012 Winter Storm Update:

Lots of changes with Thursdays storm... NOAA sent in hurricane hunters into the system and new data suggest track and temps to be colder and more frozen precip then anticipated.

From NWS Burlington:

Quote:
AS OF 331 PM EST MONDAY...OVER PAST FEW MDL RUNS...THURSDAY SYSTEM
HAS BEGUN TO TREND SLIGHTLY COLDER. THIS RESULT WILL PUT MORE
EMPHASIS SNOW ACCUM ALTHOUGH MIXED PRECIP...ESPECIALLY
SLEET...WILL FALL.
BULK OF QPF GOES
WITH IT AS A RESULT LESSENING IMPACT OF PRECIP UNTIL CD AIR W/
SYSTEM OVER THE GREAT LKS SURGES INTO AREA LATE THURSDAY CHANGING
ANY MIX TO ALL SNOW.

VALLEY LOCALES DURING THE DAY EAST OF THE
DACKS WILL SEE CHANGE TO RW. LATEST ECMWF CLOSE TO NEW GFS BUT
COULD SEE A BIT MORE MIX THAN SNOW FOR HIR ELEV.
SNOW AMT POTENTIAL COULD LEAD TO LOW END ADVISORY
CRITERIA
SO WILL HAVE TO BE MONITORED. BY THURSDAY NIGHT...CWA
WILL SEE MOST INFLUENCE FROM GREAT LKS LOW SO WILL CONTINUE
MENTION -SW...BUT AS LOW PASSES OVERNGT...FOCUS OF SNOW WILL SHIFT
TO THE NORTHERN ZONES AS WINDS SHIFT FROM WSW TO WNW
. .
This is for after the storm.

The news this morning had the storm being a mix. Early in the day it is supposed to be rain and a sloppy mix from freezing rain to wet snow. Should be nice and crappy for an evening commute.

The latest NWS forecast for the NEK is calling for snow starting late Thursday aft. No mention of any other type of precip. or anticipated accumulations. But if it's any kind of a mix nearby, I'd be expecting heavy wet stuff.
