It is possible to live without a car, but you are stuck without one. I lived in the village of Randolph for two years. When I first moved to Vermont My wife had our car back in Ct until she could move up a few months later. I felt stuck. The village like many is small and has limited shopping and the like. If I needed to get out of town it was very difficult. There is the Stagecoach bus, but it has a very limited route outside of town. If you just need to stay in your little haven then it is easy to live without a car in a village, but if you need to travel for work or to shop then you need a car. Burlington, Barre/Montpelier is another story. These places have more to offer and the transportation system is a bit better.
