I am a native of the southeast but I worked at a camp in Vermont one summer and really liked it. I am a visual artist so I was wondering if there were any areas in Vermont that are particularly good for visual artists.

Is there actually a neighborhood where artists tend to congregate?

I suppose the real question should be, what part of Vermont ISN'T good for artists?

Brandon has a thriving artist community with some very prominent names. Burlington attracts more of the 'modern artist' crowd and a more urban feel. The Art Hop is always phenomenal. Stowe and Woodstock both have exceptional artist galleries. As for scenery, you'll find great scenery everywhere but I favor southern VT, western VT towards Woodstock and Pomfret, and the Green Mountain Forest towards Ripton and down route 100.
