I have been coating the underside of my vehicles for years, I use crc engine stor in over the counter spray cans it works great because it is thicker and clings to the bottom of the vehicle well.

I have been coating the underside of my vehicles for years, I use a product called crc engine stor it is a spray oil coating used to winterize marine engines. I spray the hole underside of my truck every fall and it last the winter when they salt the roads.

My car is a 2015 - it has a rust-proof warrantee for 5 years. Dealer suggested that just before the 5 years are up I should have it inspected for rust and have the company re-do it if needed. If you have a newer car, check your warrantee first before slathering it's undersides with oil or lanolin. BTW, lanolin stinks.

I was about to post this. The Navy used lanolin as a rust inhibitor for years. You can buy Fluid Film in spray cans or in bigger tubs. They also sell a kit with a gallon of the stuff and a spray applicator. Amazon has it if you can't find it locally. Nothing is perfect but it will slow down the corrosion considerably.

I did mine myself with Fluid Film this year and was very happy with how it came out. FF doesn't run like oil understray and the smell is actually quite pleasant. forms a nice barrier between the metal and the elements. I'll be curious to see how it holds up this winter but it turned my "orangy" looking frame black after just a week or so. it's not magic, but it should stop the surface rust from growing.

It might not be so hot for the environment, though!

Any ideas?
Wouldn't oil cause salt to stick to the car and prevent you from hosing off the salt at the end of winter?
