Default University of Vermont

Hey everyone,

Well I'm a senior at a school in Los Angeles, California and going to college on the East Coast has definitely been something I've prayed about and looked into. University of Vermont is one of the schools that pervasively pops into my head. I just wanted to know (from a student, resident, or anyone with expertise on Univ of Vermont or Burlington itself) how truly diverse is the city. Will there at least be a few African-Americans every square mile (as I'm afro-american)? How is University of Vermont (from an objective standpoint), and how does the campus interact with the community? If you guys could answer these questions and gvie me a little more insight into the seemingly booming city of burlington, it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Amusement parks are a big deal for me, are there any in the area? Thanks.

Vermont is a state that is mostly 'white' but there is a sprinkling of AA, Latino, and Asians in Burlington and some of the other towns. So you will not be the only one.

The University of Vermont is Burlington has a diverse enough student body of people of diverse backgrounds- not perhaps like that of the schools in southern New England- but certainly you would feel most welcome- the state of Vermont is largely color blind and very progressive.

The University plays a large role in the community.
As for amusement parks- there are none that I know of locally. But there is much in the way of recreation- on lake Champlain, the mountains (hiking summer-winter sports winter) and many outdoor clubs with the University.

Boston, Cape Cod and the ocean are 2.5 hours away- so if you have the itch to be in a big city- it is not far- and New York is about the same distance- plenty of 'amusement' within Burlington, Vermont and New England, and Montreal and Quebec are even closer, giving you a taste of European cultutal and diversity in nearby Canada.

Dragondog is right again.

And there's a terrific amusement park in Montreal. It's called La Ronde (not to be confused with the 1950 Max Ophuls film ;-) ...The site itself is left over from the 1967 World's Fair, which was called "Expo 67". It's on an island, which was itself created when the Montreal Metro (the subway) was excavated. The dirt was put in The St Lawrence Seaway to make Islands.

Dragondog is right except one thing, it's 3.5 hours to Boston, add another hour to get to the Cape, and as far as I know, there are a couple amusment parks in NH you may enjoy as well.
