What I great program! We are looking forward to eating more local foods once we move this spring. One place we found offering lots of local foods (besides the farmers markets) is Sweet Clover Market

I second Sweet Clover Mkt. They've done very well in their first year. It's actually in a great location with an endless amount of parking. Wish I lived a bit closer...

Another Reason to Move to Vermont
There's an article on CNN.com today about food safety. Seems the government is not doing enough to ensure the safety of vegetables.

Another reason to move to Vermont.
Or at least to eat local.
Believe it or not, there are farmers' markets in NYC, including Brooklyn. The produce comes from upstate farms. I do not know, though, which produce is organic and which is not.

Pretty much all of the produce in farmer's markets, at least within the city limits, comes from organic farms (though there are exceptions). We belong to a CSA, so we get fresh organic produce 6 months out of the year, straight from Long Island. There is nothing better than a CSA - fresh produce and supporting a local farm. I also order all of our meat (chicken, pork and beef) from local farms (one from VT actually). I like knowing where my food comes from!

Tklin, can you give me the contact info for the places where you order your organic food? You can pm me if you like, but I think there are other New Yorkers reading this forum who could benefit from that information.
For organic produce, I am aware of Urban Organics. Also, there are some stores that sell organic produce. But I'm not sure how fresh the stuff is. I do, however, know how expensive it is!
Also, could you clarify what a CSA is?
Thanks.
